New Pertamina chief faces uphill task in boosting Indonesia’s energy security
Aug 30 (spglobal.com) – President Joko Widodo is preparing for presidential and legislative elections in 2019 and is inclined to maintain populist measures such as fuel subsidies, in which Pertamina will have a key role to play. Widyawati, who has been appointed by the president, will be treading a thin line between the official mandate and keeping the oil major afloat amid rising import bills, falling domestic oil and gas production levels and attracting foreign investment in the upstream sector.
